Caught at a moment when both artists were ascending the NYC Art World (Warhol 2nd rising and Basquiat his first). Inside: The iconic advertisement for Warhol’s & Basquiat’s joint exhibition at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery NYC/Bruno Bischofberger Gallery Zurich 1985. The historic image was shot by Michael Halsband. Great ads, Hollywood, Fashion, and more make this a must have!
In the early to mid-1980s, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat collaborated on a series of paintings, initially suggested by their art dealer Bruno Bischofberger. Bischofberger, who represented both artists, saw the potential for a powerful synergy between their distinct styles. This collaboration resulted in around 160 works.
The paintings were immediately panned by critics as a stunt. Mostly Warhol attaching Himself to Basquiat’s rising Star. The paintings did not sell but over time they came to be appreciated and in that museums began to acquire them and they were to become rare.
